Bora Kim

Violinist Bora Kim is from Toronto, Canada, where she made her soloist debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2009, performing 7 concerts at Roy Thomson Hall. She has also appeared as soloist with the Canadian Sinfonietta, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra, and Niagara Chamber Orchestra. Bora has given solo recitals at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, the Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Carlu, Canadian Broadcasting Center’s “Glenn Gould Studio,” and was featured for a live performance interview on both violin and piano for Toronto’s Classical 96.3 FM.

Performance highlights include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and Steinway Hall in New York, solo recitals across North America, Australia, and the Netherlands, chamber collaborations with pianist Emanuel Ax and the International Sejong Soloists, and masterclass for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. In addition, Bora has served as concertmaster of the Parlando Ensemble in New York City, and the Jeunes Virtuoses de Montreal (Montreal Chamber Music Festival), collaborating with guest artists of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.

Bora was a winner of the Canada Council’s Instrument Bank Competition, the Yale Chamber Music Competition, and the recipient of the Yale Alumni Association Prize. She has won First Prize from various national competitions, including the Canadian Music Competitions, and represented Ontario at the National Music Festival. A passionate teacher and educator, Bora is currently on the faculty at the New York Music School, the Music Niagara Festival, and previously served on the faculty at the Geneva Conservatory of Music.


Bora holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music, where she also completed two Masters degrees under the tutelage of Hyo Kang. She received double Bachelor of Music degrees in both Violin and Piano Performance from the Colburn Conservatory, as the first double-major graduate in the school’s history. Bora is an alumni of numerous festivals including Sarasota, Aspen, Norfolk, Banff, Orford, and Lake George.
