Exploring the Importance, Practice, and Brilliance of Disability Arts 

In this episode, Kalyce Carter (Accessibility Coordinator, Xenia Concerts)  has the honour of sitting down with Hannah Facknitz to explore disability arts and what it means for disabled artists to create, imagine, and share their work.

Together, they discuss the necessary and transformative approaches within disability arts, and how this practice often exists beyond traditional conventions of what art-making is expected to be. They reflect on how disability arts challenges mainstream ideas around productivity, artistic processes, and what it means to create a “finished” work of art.

Their conversation explores the importance of community, self-preservation, and reimagining the ways we value artistic practices. They also discuss the beauty of marginalia, the care embedded within disability arts, and the ways disabled artists continue to expand our understanding of creativity, expression, and connection.
