Xenia Concerts Welcomes Maitreyi Muralidharan as Director of Artistic Programming

Xenia Concerts is delighted to welcome Maitreyi Muralidharan (they/them) as our new Director of Artistic Programming!

A violinist, interdisciplinary artist, and researcher, Maitreyi brings a wealth of experience in contemporary music, innovative concert design, and community-focused artistic programming.

Maitreyi is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Windwood Music Festival in Airdrie, Alberta, and performs with DoSi, a violin-piano ensemble that has received multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts in support of its innovative and accessible concert designs. Their recent projects include collaborations with Montreal-based ensemble Il Buio, chamber music performances across Canada, and touring Wanting to Start Again with DoSi.

Maitreyi’s artistic practice is also informed by their personal experiences navigating significant injuries as a musician. These experiences have shaped their commitment to exploring unconventional approaches to music-making, fostering connections through live performance, and supporting more sustainable and inclusive artistic practices.

On the hiring of Maitreyi, Rory McLeod, Xenia’s Executive Director shares:

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Maitreyi to the team at Xenia Concerts as the new Director of Artistic Programming. Maitreyi brings to the role a potent combination of artistic expertise, creative vision, event design experience, and passion for accessibility, neuro-inclusion, and community-building. I know that they will carry the artistic vision and community impact of Xenia Concerts to new heights.”

A graduate of the Peabody Institute of Music, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and McGill University, Maitreyi is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Performance Science at McGill, researching the relationship between language and embodiment in performers.

Reflecting on their new role, Maitreyi shares:

“I am deeply grateful to serve musical and neurodivergent communities in Canada and globally as Xenia’s Artistic Programming Director. Xenia has consistently been at the forefront of accessible concert design, and I am excited to continue this incredible work with kindness, curiosity, and joy. Thank you for your trust, and I look forward to meeting you!”

As Director of Artistic Programming, Maitreyi will help shape Xenia’s artistic vision, working closely with our team, artists, and community partners to develop engaging and accessible concert experiences. Their experience as a performer, artistic leader, and researcher will bring valuable perspectives to Xenia’s ongoing work to make live music more welcoming and accessible to all.

Xenia Concerts would like to acknowledge the many funders and donors who have made it possible to expand our team and our artistic vision, particularly the Ontario Trillium Foundation, who are supporting Xenia with a three-year Grow grant from 2026-2029.

Please join us in giving Maitreyi a warm welcome to the Xenia Concerts team!
